A Proper Challenge
In my earlier years, due to a lack of experience, I often challenged my leaders in the presence of my colleagues. Unfortunately, some of my greatest ideas and advice were ignored or rejected simply because I failed to challenge the process appropriately.
Most leaders possess a certain level of dignity to preserve. Thus, challenging our leaders openly only adds to their embarrassment. Unfortunately, it can also add to our misery. Applying discretion can go a long way in leadership and relationships (Proverbs 2:11).
Authentic leaders covet loyalty AND honesty. When a leader has an idea we don’t agree with, there’s a proper way to challenge them: prayerfully, privately, respectfully, humbly, earnestly, sincerely, clearly, and graciously. It’s all in the presentation (Colossians 4:6).
