Holding Others Back

Holding Others Back

Big leaders have BIG dreams. Yet, they rarely dream of others ascending above them. Thus, they’re tempted to hold others back for fear that they may go further than their leader. However, if a dream doesn’t include and even prefer others, then it is not a compelling enough dream.

I’m remorseful to admit there was a time I often felt threatened by the success of others. Insecurity ruled. Rather than celebrate them, I actually hoped they would fail. I felt if they arrived at their destination before I did then there would be no room left at the top for me.

This is a poverty mentality: to believe there is not enough of God’s favor to go around. We must repent of this mindset and be committed to change. We must live by a higher standard of leadership and be about the mission of influencing, inspiring, and elevating others.

When we snuff out someone else’s light, it doesn’t make ours shine any brighter. God’s way is to make the way for others to succeed (Isaiah 43:19). While some leaders look for people to hold their ladders, Godly leaders lower the ladder for others. That’s what Jesus did for us.
