Slingshot Leadership

Slingshot Leadership

Did you know that you are not big enough for what God has called you to do? If you want more and greater opportunities to influence and impact people’s lives, you’ll always be required to stretch beyond your capacity. Tension is necessary for growth and increased capacity. Look to the way of the slingshot. It can teach us much about the value of personal growth.

1. A slingshot cannot fulfill its purpose unless it is stretched. A slingshot can do serious damage. Yet, if it’s not fully stretched, it cannot launch the stone. When we’re set in our ways, we lose our potential to lead in bigger ways. Dreaming big means becoming big. Thus, we must stretch.

2. A slingshot must be pulled backward to propel forward. To shoot a stone for longer distances, a slingshot must be drawn back to its breaking point. When there’s no slack left it is ready to be released. The tension of setbacks gives us greater momentum and increased inertia.

3. A slingshot must be stretched to extremes for maximum impact. A slingshot must be stretched to the maximum to hit its target with greater force. Leaders are often stretched beyond capacity. Yet, the more we are stretched, the more powerful our influence and notable our impact.

4. The stone must be tightly pinched in the slingshot’s pouch. Not only must a stone be stretched back, it must also be tightly pinched in order to be released effectively. When we feel stretched and pinched on all sides, we best hear from God in the tension and silence of the pouch.
