Money Matters

Walt Disney was VERY poor with his finances. At one point, he was even homeless and eating out of trash cans. He eventually begged his brother Roy to completely take over his money and business matters. Disney’s overwhelming success is greatly attributed to his brother’s administrative genius, business savvy, and discipline with money.

Many creative and visionary leaders aren’t business saavy. They’re aware they have money but don’t know what to do with it, except spend it. Although some leaders may have this vice in their personality, they cannot accept it in their character. Therefore, leaders must grab ahold of their weaknesses in this area, get help, and be accountable.

Spending everything isn’t the way to win at leadership. We don’t always need everything we think we need to succeed. Great leaders don’t always need more. They need to learn how to do more with less (I.e. Gideon, Judges 6-8). Leaders should plan, project, save, invest, and give generously. If we have big dreams, we need big resources.

You don’t have to be a financial expert. If you’re not good with money, staff your weakness. Don’t allow yourself to control the money if you can’t control YOURSELF. Read Dave Ramsey books, attend Crown University, hire a financial planner. Do whatever it takes to get out of debt. If you don’t have debt, you will have money. It’s that simple.

Break the chains off of the vision God has given you. Quit spending all you have, because all you have is all you’ve got to get to where you want to go. If you’re going to spend everything, spend your entire life fulfilling God’s purpose for your life. While you’re at it, save as much money as you can. You’re going to need it for all God has called you to do.
