Personality or Principality?
Spiritual leadership is often under some form of attack or hardship. Yet, often our first reaction to problems is to confront, punish, reassign, or terminate the person. However, simply removing someone doesn’t guarantee getting rid of the problem. Often, the problem isn’t a personality, it’s a principality (Ephesians 6:12).
Dealing with demonic disruption must be employed by spiritual means (2 Corinthians 10:3-5). This cannot be done through the lens of sense knowledge––what we see, touch, or hear in the natural. E.W. Kenyon said, “All the world’s great leaders have been ‘sense-knowledge’ men, but we are to be spiritual leaders.”
When we pray and release God’s wisdom, it often works independently of any action on our part. God’s wisdom exposes and brings satanic influences to a grinding halt. It reverses disruptive atmospheres, modifies broken environments, and reestablishes stability without our assistance or ingenuity.
There will be times when confrontation and a documented plan of action is necessary. However, we must remember that the church is not a secular institution. It is essentially NOT of this world (John 17:16). Understanding this is the beginning of all effective leadership decisions within the ministry.
